Matchmove | Final shot

As my goal to film my own matchmove footage for my showreel fell through, I needed to look elsewhere for other footage. Jon suggested a video on vimeo, however I couldn’t seem to find a way to download it, as the download button wasnt there. I ended up ripping it from the website, but this is not ideal as the quality is of course worse off for this having been done. I looked around the internet as well, hoping to find more free to download test footage that I could use. My searches however did not reveal anything new. This meant going into my showreel I have three possible shots that I can use.

The first shot I originally successfully match moved, the Woman and the blaster walk. The footage shot in the masterclass on the University campus. Or the new footage I ripped off vimeo.

Firstly I wanted to see how easy it was to track this new footage; I was worried about the resolution of the footage making it harder to track. Although I ended up having to add my own tracking points in to get it to work well, I did manage to get my 8 trackers on this piece of footage with a error rating of 1.2. I quickly rendered out a quick, low resolution test using a cube, and I’m pretty happy with my solve.

My plan is to insert my table and mug model into this footage. I’m not as happy with the texturing of this model as I am with the chessboard I have been working on, but it will still be good to demonstrate my motion tracking skills. I’m also hoping if I have time to colour grade this shot afterwards, as it’s something that I haven’t worked on as much as I wanted to this semester. This is due to me tackling the two steeper learning curves of machmoving and 3D modeling first.
